This tournament is a blast! Every year our karate kids have a great time showcasing their skills. All divisions are broken up by skill level and age, so even beginner White Belts can enjoy this event!

Please make sure you pre-register. This will help with organization and proper trophy ordering. Also, all competitors will be required to wear safety gear when sparring. This includes Headgear, Handgear, Footgear & Mouthpiece. You may borrow Head, Hand & Footgear if you need to. If you would like to purchase your own set of sparring equipment you can do so at the school.

Pre-Registration: On or Before Wednesday, November 14th!

Late Registration: After the 14th (a $10 late charge will apply.)

Special Note For Parents & Students!

I would like to encourage all of our karate students to participate in this year’s Intramural Thanksgiving Tournament.

There are two divisions: Forms and Sparring.

Every student who enters our tournament will earn 2 trophies.

1 for Forms competition and 1 for Sparring Competition.

When it comes to sparring some students may feel a little apprehensive or awkward participating. I would strongly urge you as a parent to ‘gently nudge’ your child into participating. My thinking is: as children face challenges like these head on, they will emerge stronger from the experience and they usually find out it wasn’t so bad after all.

We will also have a ‘Grand Champion Division’. Each student who places 1st or 2nd place in their division for Forms will be eligible to compete in the Grand Champion Forms Division.

Accordingly, each student who places 1st or 2nd place in their division for Sparring will be eligible to compete in the Grand Champion Sparring Division.

The Grand Champion Division is open to all 1st and 2nd Place Winners in White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Red, & Candidate Belt Divisions. The Grand Champion Division is NOT open for Tots Divisions or Black Belts. Black Belts will have their own divisions. If a student places 1st or 2nd in both Forms and Sparring they will be eligible to enter BOTH Grand Champion Divisions. There is NO extra charge if you are eligible to enter either of the Grand Champions Divisions.

In The Grand Champions Divisions ONLY the 1st Place Winner will receive a Grand Champion Trophy. ONLY the 2nd Place Winner will receive a Medal.

Finally, I want to reinforce to you that our tournament’s PRIMARY FOCUS is on friendly competition, demonstrating good sportsmanship and each child doing THEIR best, not being THE best. Finally, it’s about being thankful for our athletic gifts that we have only because God has chosen to give them to us.

Any questions please call or email me. I would be glad to answer all of your questions, comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jim Fortunato
